Womxn's History Month: Lena Waithe
Our next feature for Womxn’s History Month spotlights screenwriter, producer, actress, and Boyfriend fragrance fan Lena Waithe. Lena is best known for her role in the Netflix series, Masters on None, creating the drama series The Chi, writing and producing the 2019 film Queen & Slim and most recently creating the new BET series Twenties.
Lena got her start in the tv/film industry as an assistant to the executive producer of the sitcom show, Girlfriends. She moved her way up by snagging acting & writing roles on various tv shows. In 2015 she created the drama series, The Chi, where her goal as the creator was to share her experience growing up on the southside of Chicago and for viewers to see it’s diversity. Lena was also cast in the Netflix show, Masters of None, which led her to win an Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series and making her the first Black American womxn to win in that category. Lena has become a true trailblazer in the tv/film industry as she is constantly working to showcase more queer and people of color in her film and tv projects and we can’t wait to see what else she’ll work on!
